Save Money and Live Better

When I sat down with Mindy and Jim two years ago, they were in pretty good shape financially. With two children and a third on the way, they were diligent savers and had built a solid cushion to cover unexpected expenses. The challenge? They had no idea if they were actually saving enough, and they had no real vision of what they were saving for.

We recently celebrated sweet-sixteen birthdays for our twin “babies” (what happened to my tiny toddlers?!), so I suppose it’s no surprise that I have college planning on my mind.

The extraordinary power of planning

It’s tax season at our offices right now. As a financial advisor, that means that I’m spending all of my days sitting down with clients to review their 2018 taxes and put a plan in place for the current year. What has surprised me this year? We’re headed for a record-setting Valentine’s Day. And though I hate to put a damper on this heart-filled holiday, the revelation that the majority of people are planning to spend more than ever on Valentine’s Day this year is less-than-great news for most gift givers this year.

It’s that time of year when ghosts and ghouls get top billing. But while trick-or-treating may be all fun and games, there are three truly scary monsters that can put you in very real danger—at least when it comes to protecting your financial future. The good news is that for every monster, there is a powerful defense. The key is using the right weapons to slay each threat long before it’s able to cause any lasting harm. Are you ready?
From 0 to 50: KFG is working together to change the world!

Last week, I was honored to be asked to speak to a group of fellow financial advisors on one of my favorite topics: personal financial planning. The response from the attendees was spectacular—not because I’m a particularly amazing speaker (I always feel a bit underprepared and overly enthusiastic!), but because customized, comprehensive financial planning is finally resonating with the majority of my peers. But that wasn’t always the case.
Far from it.
